I have been accepted into this year's Pratt ROH where it  features sustainability research projects from both students and professors of different departments. This submission focuses on this collection's key look of the NOSO Denim Film Coat with Ice-Dyed Denim Culottes with NOSO finishing. Click more to listen to my explanation of this collection, this look, and my hopes for a new sustainable aspect in fashion with this method of reusing headstock or old fabric.

"I grew up with childhood stories of survival"

This semester, Fall 2019, I was inspired by the childhood stories my dad (Ba) told me when he lived as a refugee for almost a year at 14 years old.

He told me many stories growing up in America but there are a few select stories that stuck out to me. The first one I focused on was of his boat trip to Indonesia where he was at sea for 10 days. He left the country by himself wearing a pair of Levi's, given to him by his mom. When he arrived onshore, his jeans were crusted and rusted with salt and seawater but he took great care in maintaining them. His stories were inspiring to me because of the immense amount of survival he had to endure and the culture he held on in order to raise me with Vietnamese authenticity in a diverse country of America. I grew up with two conflicting cultures but in this collection, I chose a Vietnamese bias.
